- How does the promotional interest rate work?
Members who transfer a balance from another credit card to their UCU credit card will receive an introductory 1.99% APR for 6 months (180 days) from the date of the first qualifying balance transfer. After 180 days, the standard APR for balance transfers will apply.
- Can I transfer multiple balances?
Yes, members can transfer multiple balances during the promotional period. Each transfer will receive the 1.99% APR for 180 days from the date of the initial qualifying balance transfer.
- What happens after the promotional period ends?
After the promotional period, any remaining balance from the transferred amount will revert to the standard balance transfer APR for the member’s credit card. Members should check their credit card agreement for details on their specific standard APR.
- What types of debt can be transferred?
Members can transfer balances from credit cards issued by other financial institutions. However, balance transfers cannot be made from other UCU credit cards or loans.
- Is there a fee for transferring a balance?
Yes, a balance transfer fee of 2.00% of the transferred amount applies, with a minimum charge of $10.

- Can a balance transfer be reversed or canceled?
Once a balance transfer is processed, it cannot be reversed. Please ensure that you want to proceed before confirming the transfer.
- Will a balance transfer affect a my credit score?
A balance transfer itself does not directly impact your credit score. However, credit utilization and account age can influence a score. Please consider your overall financial situation before making a transfer.
- When will the transferred balance be applied to my UCU credit card?
Balance transfers typically take 14 business days to process. You should continue making payments on your original credit card until the balance transfer is confirmed to avoid late fees.
- Can I continue using my credit card while carrying a transferred balance?
Yes, you can continue to use your UCU credit card. However, new purchases will accrue interest at the standard purchase APR unless paid in full by the due date.
- How can I track my balance transfer progress?
You can monitor your balance transfer status and promotional APR expiration date through online banking or by contacting UCU Member Services.
- Will I still earn rewards on my UCU Rewards or Cash Back Credit Card?
Balance transfers do not earn rewards points or cash back. Only eligible purchases earn rewards.

Promotional 1.99% APR applies to qualified balance transfers from February 15, 2025 – April 15, 2025 for 6 months from the date of the first qualifying balance transfer. Members may make multiple balance transfers during the qualifying period; the promotional rate for each balance transfer will expire 180 days after the initial qualifying balance transfer date. A 2% balance transfer fee applies. This promotion only applies to UCU Rewards and UCU Cashback credit cards. A minimum of $10 must be transferred. Cash advances are excluded. Promotional rate excludes payoff to another University Credit Union (UCU) loan or credit card. After the promotional period ends, any remaining balance will revert to the standard rate, ranging from 14.99% to 23.99% APR. You may not be eligible for the promotional rate if you are delinquent. Balance transfer subject to credit qualification and available balance limit. Continue to pay your other balances until the balance transfer is received which could take up to 14 days. UCU will not be responsible for finance charges or late fees on the account you are paying off. Cash Back or Rewards will not be earned for balance transfers.
